Water Scarcity Adaptation Techniques in the Za’atari Refugee Camp, Jordan

Jordan suffers from severe water scarcity and is one of the world’s most water-poor countries. Climate change is exacerbating the water scarcity felt by communities across Jordan through a variety of facades, most notably through water shortages and inaccessibility. Syrian refugees are some of the most vulnerable communities to the impacts of climate change, and are therefore the most innovative with their adaptation strategies. The objective of this paper is to explore these techniques to cope with the limited access to water, and to identify further methods which could be used to increase water security and build climate resilience in the Za’atari  refugee camp.
